Ocho Rios—better known as “Ochi” to the locals—is an absolute dream for beaches and natural beauties. If you’ve ever wanted to experience the perfect mix of laid-back island life and adrenaline-filled adventure, this is the place. It’s where rivers meet Ocho Rios beaches, and culture blends with nature in the most magical way.
Sure, the touristy side of Ochi has its charm, but the real magic is in the hidden gems. You’ll find secluded rivers, untouched beaches, and quirky local spots that will make your heart sing.
Adventures in Ocho Rios beaches and natural spots
Little Dunn’s River – Small but Mighty
Forget the crowds at Dunn’s River Falls and head to its chilled-out little sibling, Little Dunn’s River. This gem isn’t just free, but it’s also so peaceful you might feel like you’ve stumbled into your own private paradise. I spent ages climbing the small cascades and soaking in the refreshing pools—no rush, no pushing, just pure relaxation. If you want to connect with nature and skip the tourist madness, this is the spot.
Fire Water – Literal Magic
Okay, I’ll admit it, I was sceptical when someone told me about Fire Water. A river that you can set on fire? Yeah, right. But trust me, it’s real, and it’s mind-blowing. Watching the flames flicker across the water’s surface felt like stepping into a fantasy.
But the best part? Meeting the iconic Brownie Man. This legend of a local is full of stories, wisdom, and a cheeky sense of humour. We had a chat that stayed with me long after I left—he’s one of those people who just gets life, you know? If you go, don’t miss the chance to soak in the warm sulphur water while listening to him. It’s an experience you’ll never forget.
Hidden Rivers
Ochi isn’t just about big attractions—it’s packed with hidden treasures like Rio Nuevo, a tranquil river spot that felt like my own little haven. I stumbled on a few other free river areas, too, and let me tell you, there’s nothing like kicking back by the water with the sound of birds and rushing streams to soothe your soul. No entry fees, no stress—just vibes.
The Ocho Rios Beaches – Pleasure and Ruins
Of course, I couldn’t skip Ocho Rios beaches. Pleasure Cove Beach lived up to its name—a tiny, cosy cove with calm waves and hardly anyone around. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’ve been let in on a secret. Then there’s Sugarpot Ruins Beach, which sounds fancy, right? And it is! The beach is just stunning, and the ruins nearby give it this mysterious, romantic vibe. Absolute perfection.
The Blue Lagoon
Every traveller raves about the Blue Lagoon, and now I know why. It’s a surreal mix of vivid blues and greens, and the water? Crystal clear. I spent hours just floating around, staring at the beauty around me. If I could’ve bottled up the experience, I would’ve.

Martel was my driver for a couple of days, and he knows all the cool spots. While he can take you to the typical tourist sites, what’s great is he can also show you hidden gems off the beaten path. If you need someone to guide you around Ochi, he’s a solid choice. Martel +1(876) 478 0841
Ocho Rios – Where to Stay
The View @ Sky Castles, Columbus Heights
This Airbnb was my first home in Ochi, and let me tell you, the name does not disappoint. The views are jaw-dropping—lush green hills rolling down to meet the Caribbean Sea in a way that feels straight out of a postcard. It’s simple, it’s clean, and it’s got everything you need for a comfortable stay.
And the gigantic pool? An absolute gem, especially after a day of trekking around waterfalls and Ocho Rios beaches. Plus, its location is unbeatable. You’re just a short walk from the buzz of downtown Ochi, but high enough up the hill that you feel like you’ve escaped into your own peaceful little bubble. Affordable, convenient, and did I mention the view?!
Marazul Ocho Rios – Your Jamaican Home from Home
This Airbnb is perched just above downtown, giving you the most breathtaking views over Ocho Rios while being nestled in a lush, safe area. It’s like waking up in a dream every morning—the Caribbean Sea glinting in the distance, the sound of birdsong, and the gentle rustle of trees in the breeze. The wonderful view of Ocho Rios!
But the real star of Marazul? Mrs. Helen, the cleaner and chef who will quickly become your favourite person in Ochi. For an extra cost, she’ll whip up the most incredible Jamaican meals you’ve ever tasted, all while sharing stories about the island, its culture, and its traditions. Mrs. Helen’s cooking isn’t just food—it’s a love letter to Jamaica, served on a plate.
Picture this: you come back from a day exploring Little Dunn’s River or lounging at Sugarpot Ruins Beach Ocho Rios beaches, and Mrs. Helen is in the kitchen, preparing jerk chicken, rice and peas, or some freshly caught fish with all the trimmings. It’s authentic, it’s delicious, and it’s made with so much heart.
She even taught me a bit about Jamaican cooking, patiently explaining the ingredients and techniques that go into her dishes. Spending time with her was as much a cultural experience as it was a culinary one. Honestly, she’s reason enough to book this Airbnb—she’s that good.
