London Travel Food Itinerary

Ciao, fellow travellers! If you’re planning a trip to London and are looking for some inspiration and guidance on where to go and what to do, you’ve come to the right place. As a long-time resident of this vibrant city, I’ve had the pleasure of exploring many of its different areas and discovering some hidden gems along the way. In this blog post, I’ll be sharing with you my favourite travel and food itinerary recommendations for each region of London: East, West, North, and South. So grab your Oyster card, and let’s dive into my top picks!

West London

I’m excited to share with you my favorite travel and food itinerary recommendations for West London.

First stop: Kensington and Chelsea. This charming area is home to some of London’s most beautiful and historic sites, such as Kensington Palace and the Victoria and Albert Museum. But let’s not forget about the food! For a taste of Italy, head to La Mia Mamma for some authentic, homemade pasta. And if you’re in the mood for something sweet, stop by Ottolenghi for some delicious cakes and pastries.

Next up: Hammersmith and Fulham. This lively borough is known for its bustling high street and scenic riverside walks. Take a stroll along the Thames and then head to The River Cafe for some world-class Italian cuisine. And if you’re feeling thirsty, check out the nearby Fuller’s Brewery for a taste of some local brews.

Moving on to Brent, home to the famous Wembley Stadium. If you’re lucky enough to catch a game or concert, make sure to stop by the nearby London Designer Outlet for some great shopping and dining options. And if you’re in the mood for some Caribbean flavors, head to Turtle Bay for some delicious jerk chicken and rum cocktails.

Last but not least, Richmond upon Thames. This picturesque area boasts beautiful parks and gardens, such as Richmond Park and Kew Gardens. For some delicious seafood, check out Petersham Nurseries Cafe a café provide perfect balm for frazzled urbanites. Then head to Antipodea for brunch or dinner with an Aussie twist.

Central London

Welcome to Central London, where the city comes to life. From the bustling streets of Oxford Street to the iconic landmarks of Westminster, this area of London is a must-see for any traveler.

Let’s start with Soho, a vibrant neighborhood that’s home to some of the best restaurants and bars in the city. Take a stroll down Dean Street and enjoy the lively atmosphere. Stop by Barrafina for some tasty tapas or head to Milk & Honey for a classic cocktail. If you’re a theater lover, catch a show at the Soho Theatre.

Next up, Covent Garden. This iconic area is a hub of entertainment and culture, with street performers and live music filling the streets. Take a stroll through the market and check out the unique stalls, or head to the Royal Opera House for a world-class performance. For lunch, stop by El Ta’Koy for some delicious Hawaiian street food or try some gourmet mac and cheese at The Cheese Bar.

Moving on to the West End, the heart of London’s theater scene. Catch a show at one of the famous theaters like the Palace or the Apollo, then head to Carnaby Street for some shopping and food. For a bit of history, visit the British Museum or take a tour of the Houses of Parliament.

Last but not least, the iconic South Bank. Take a walk along the Thames and enjoy the stunning views of the city. Stop by the Tate Modern for some contemporary art or head to the Southbank Centre for a live performance. For lunch, check out the street food market at the Southbank Centre or grab a pint at the famous Anchor pub.

North London

Hop on the Northern line and let’s dive into my top picks on this London travel and food itinerary!

First stop: Camden. This iconic area is known for its bustling markets, live music scene, and alternative culture. Take a stroll down the famous Camden Lock Market, and indulge in some street food from around the world. For a taste of something sweet, head to Chin Chin Labs for some delicious liquid nitrogen ice cream.

Next up: Islington. This charming borough is home to some of the city’s best independent shops and cafes. Sambal Shiok is a Malaysian laksa bar. 12:51 (It’s named after a song by The Strokes). You will find flavours of new-Brit with a Scottish/Caribbean kick. And if you’re in the mood for some live comedy, check out the nearby Angel Comedy Club for some laughs.

Moving on to Highgate, a picturesque area that’s perfect for a leisurely walk. Visit the historic Highgate Cemetery, where you can see the graves of famous figures like Karl Marx and George Eliot. For a cozy meal, head to The Bull. this Highgate boozer has a fantastic selection of craft beer from local and international breweries, and an interesting, eclectic menu. The brunch, which includes poached duck eggs, smoked trout and minute steak with bone marrow, is an especial winner.

Last but not least, Hampstead. This affluent area is known for its beautiful green spaces and stunning views of the city. Take a walk around Hampstead Heath and enjoy the panoramic views. Jin Kichi’s elevated reputation lies both with its precisely executed Japanese cuisine and willingness to experiment. Thus, crunchy chicken gizzards and beef tongue are on the menu along with more conventional sushi and skewers from the robata grill. One of London’s few true izakayas.

South London

Welcome to the south side of London! This area of the city is known for its diverse communities, beautiful green spaces, and lively neighborhoods.

Let’s start our journey in Brixton, an energetic and culturally rich part of South London. Start your day with a coffee at The Laundry. It is a bustling all-day neighbourhood restaurant, café & wine shop. Then, explore the historic Brixton Market and sample some of the delicious Caribbean food on offer. For a bit of culture, head to the Black Cultural Archives or the Ritzy cinema for a film screening.

Next up: Peckham, a vibrant and eclectic neighborhood that’s been making waves in recent years. Take a walk around the Peckham Rye Park, and enjoy the beautiful greenery. Then, head to the Peckham Levels for a unique shopping experience, and stop by the rooftop bar for a drink with a view. If you’re feeling hungry, head to Coal Rooms for some delicious meat dishes, or to Mr Bao for some tasty Taiwanese street food.

Moving on to Clapham. This popular neighborhood is known for its trendy bars and restaurants, as well as its beautiful green spaces. Take a walk around Clapham Common and enjoy the sunshine. For dinner, head to The Rose & Crown for some delicious modern British cuisine, or to Andalucia for some delicious tapas and wine.

Last but not least, Greenwich (South- East), a historic area that’s home to the famous Cutty Sark ship and the Greenwich Observatory. Take a walk through the beautiful Greenwich Park and enjoy the stunning views of the River Thames. For lunch, head to the Greenwich Market and sample some of the delicious street food on offer. Then, take a walk along the river and explore the charming streets of Greenwich Village.

East London

Welcome to East London, where the streets are alive with art, culture, and history. This area of the city has been revitalized in recent years, and now boasts some of the coolest spots in London. Let’s move on the London travel and food itinerary.

Our first stop is Hackney, a trendy and artistic neighborhood that’s home to some of the best street art in the city. Take a walk around the streets and marvel at the colorful murals and graffiti. Stop by Violet Bakery for a sweet treat, or head to Broadway Market for some tasty street food. If you’re a vintage lover, check out Beyond Retro for some unique finds.

Next up: Shoreditch, the heart of East London’s creative scene. Take a walk around Boxpark and explore the pop-up shops and food stalls. Then, head to the Brick Lane Market for some of the best curry in the city. For a bit of culture, check out the street art and galleries in the area.

Moving on to Walthamstow, a charming neighborhood that’s perfect for a day trip. Start your day at God’s Own Junkyard, a quirky neon wonderland that’s not to be missed. Then, head to the Walthamstow Village for a peaceful walk around the charming streets. For lunch, stop by Eat17 for some tasty gourmet burgers or check out the street food at Walthamstow Market.

Last but not least, Canary Wharf. This bustling business district has been transformed into a modern hub of art and culture. Take a walk around the area and admire the modern architecture. For lunch, head to Giant Robot, a street food market with a stunning view of the Thames. And if you’re feeling adventurous, take a ride on the Emirates Air Line cable car for a breathtaking view of the city.
