Apr 23, 2022 | DAY TRIP FROM LONDON

Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire.

Looking for a quiet escape from London’s hustle and bustle? Look no further than Henley on Thames! This charming town in Oxfordshire is just a two-hour train ride from London Paddington Station, and it’s the perfect place to unwind.

Nestled on the banks of the River Thames, Henley on Thames is famous for hosting the Annual Royal Regatta, a prestigious event that draws top rowers from around the world.

I decided to stay one night at The Relais to fully enjoy the town and what it has to offer. Alternatively you can easily do a Day Trip from London.

Day 1 of things to do in Henley on Thames

As soon as I arrived at the hotel I enjoyed the most wonderful Afternoon tea in the UK

I then walked to the city center and I immediately fell in love with the peaceful atmosphere, the charming River Thames and the vibrant restaurants, independent cafes and pubs.

After a long walk around the town, my friend and I decided to stop for an early dinner at “Hart Street Tavern”. The menu is seasonal and freshly produced in house, focusing on local producers and suppliers. The burgers were excellent cooked, and the truffle and parmesan chips were deliciously great! The espresso martini was one of the best espresso martini I had in my life! Lovely atmosphere and very good service!

After our early dinner, my friend and I went to Chiltern Valley Winery and Brewery for a tour and tasting experience. I highly recommend it. The lovely lady who showed us around was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and passionate. They also have a lovely B&B that I’d love to stay at for a couple of nights!

The set session was very good. We tried 2 wines, 4 beers and 3 liquors. All paired with local cheese and crackers. All of this for £6pp! A bargain!! I ended up buying a couple of their beers. They were very nice.

Day 2

When you’re in Henley, one place you simply cannot miss is the National Trust’s Greys Court house and garden. For just £13, you’ll get access to an oasis in the heart of the countryside. The house itself is a stunning example of Tudor architecture, with beautiful gardens that offer stunning views of the surrounding countryside. If you visit in the spring, you’ll be treated to a breathtaking display of bluebells in the nearby fields, which is simply charming and not to be missed.

I’d have stayed all day long, walking and exploring, but, another wonderful experience was waiting to be enjoyed!

My friend and I did a river cruise with the best company Hobbs.

The company has been taken care of by 5 generations and nobody will better help you to discover the beauty of the River Thames.

We rented Evo, a luxury yacht with a spacious lounge area for up to 8 people.

With

– a retractable roof (perfect for all weather conditions)

– a fridge to cool your drinks

– a music system to play your favorite tunes whilst cruising the water in sophisticated elegance

Glorious service. Jonnie and Suzy Hobbs made this fantastic experience for me and my friend in less than 24 hours’ notice. They let us try their very own Mr Hobbs Gin too! Delicious!

Before returning to London, my friend and I had a memorable late lunch at “Shellfish Cow”.

The big Taster Cataplana Menu (for only £22!!!) is a plate I will eat everyday.

Three seared scallops, Dozen king prawns, Quarter kilo mussels, garlic & lemon and warm French bread. Their selection of wines is excellent.

The waiter was absolutely top notch.

I fell in love with this town. I will come back very soon.
