Caserta is just 40 minutes away by train from Naples. And what about from Rome? If you are planning a day trip from Rome to Caserta by train, you can take a high-speed train from Roma Termini station to Napoli Centrale station. Then switch to a regional train to Caserta. The journey takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on the train schedule and connections.
Visit the Royal Palace of Caserta Italy as Day Trip Itinerary!
Is the Royal Palace of Caserta worth visiting? Oh Yes! 100 times yes! I had the chance to visit the Royal Palace of Caserta, a grand and opulent palace constructed in the 18th century. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the largest palaces in Europe and was commissioned by King Charles III of Bourbon as a symbol of his power and influence. Architect Luigi Vanvitelli designed the palace, modeling it after the Palace of Versailles in France.
The palace boasts a stunning Baroque architecture, with grand halls, opulent rooms, and sprawling gardens. The grand staircase is especially impressive, featuring stunning frescoes by Vanvitelli. The interior of the palace showcases the finest Italian art and craftsmanship, with notable rooms such as the Throne Room, the Royal Chapel, and the Great Hall of the Guard.
The palace’s exterior features expansive gardens that cover over 120 acres, including beautiful fountains, sculptures, and manicured lawns. Visitors can stroll through the gardens or take a guided tour on a golf cart.
Explore the Historic Center
The historic center of Caserta is a charming and picturesque area that dates back to the medieval period. The town’s rich history, dating back to its Roman founding, is reflected in its architecture and landmarks.
At the heart of the historic center is the imposing Cathedral of Caserta, built in the 11th century.
What sets the historic center apart is its narrow, winding streets and alleys. Colorful buildings, flower boxes, and balconies line many of these streets, adding to the town’s charm and character.
Where to eat during your Caserta Italy Day Trip
To fully experience Caserta Italy as Day Trip, you must indulge in the local cuisine. You can start by sampling the famous buffalo mozzarella, fresh pasta, la polacca, and casatiello. And don’t forget to satisfy your hunger with a hearty plate of Neapolitan-style pizza, which is a must-try for any food lover.
My 3 favorite places during this trip are:
Alleria WineBar
“Alleria WIneBar” in Caserta is a must-visit for anyone who loves great food, impeccable service, and a cosy atmosphere. From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted by warm, friendly staff who make you feel right at home.
The menu is an absolute delight, with a fantastic selection of dishes that are all prepared to perfection. From the charcuterie board to the pasta dishes, everything is made with the freshest, highest-quality ingredients that showcase the flavors of the region. And let’s not forget the wine list, which is truly impressive. Whether you’re in the mood for a bold red or a crisp white, there’s something for everyone.
But what really sets Alleria WineBar apart is the atmosphere. It’s a cosy and intimate space that’s perfect for a romantic dinner for two or a night out with friends. Gaetano (the owner) is incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and wine list, and they’re more than happy to offer suggestions or answer any questions you may have. They go above and beyond to make sure your dining experience is truly unforgettable. Especially if he plays his saxophone for you at the end of your meals!
Cotto e Mangiato
If you’re looking for authentic Neapolitan-style pizza in Caserta, look no further than “Cotto e Mangiato”. This pizzeria is a true gem in the heart of the town and offers some of the best pizza I’ve ever tasted.
The menu at Cotto e Mangiato looks quite overwhelming at the beginning, there are plenty of options, but I assure you, everything is delicious. The pizzas are made with fresh, high-quality ingredients and cooked in a traditional wood-fired oven. The toppings are creative and flavorful, with a variety of options to suit all tastes.
In addition to pizza, Cotto e Mangiato also offers a variety of appetizers and desserts. The fried pizza dough with Nutella and Pistacchio is a must-try dessert.
Mazzini Glamour lounge Bar
Look no further than “Mazzini Glamour lounge Bar” if you’re searching for a chic and sophisticated spot to enjoy a drink in Caserta. This stylish establishment, situated in the heart of the town, is a true gem that provides an unforgettable experience for anyone who visits.
The atmosphere at Mazzini Glamour is simply stunning. The interior is sleek and modern, with clean lines, minimalist decor, and soft lighting that sets the perfect mood for a night out. The staff at Mazzini Glamour is friendly, professional, and incredibly knowledgeable about the drinks they serve. They are always happy to offer recommendations and suggestions, making sure that each customer feels welcomed and taken care of.
But what really sets Mazzini Glamour apart is its attention to detail. Everything from the presentation of the drinks to the music playing in the background is carefully curated to create a truly memorable experience. It’s clear that the owners and staff at Mazzini Glamour are passionate about what they do, and it shows in every aspect of the bar.
