An easy and wonderful day trip from Naples, is definitely to Agropoli, Cilento. Less than 2 hours away by train from Napoli Centrale Station to Agropoli Castellabate. It costs less than € 8 one way ticket.
Agropoli is the nicest and affordable city on the Cilento Coast, a wonderful cheapest option from the very expensive Amalfi Coast.
I personally decided with my friend to stay there for a couple of nights. We needed a quiet and nice place to spend the last days of summer (I did this trip at the end of September), and Agropoli was just perfect. No tourists at all, only nice locals to spend the days with, and the beaches weren’t crowded and so enjoyable.
We stayed at “Settessenze Residence”. Just in front of the “Golfo di Salerno”, it’s a nice, affordable, clean residence, with wonderful service and breakfast. It is located in a perfect position, very close to all the restaurants, the supermarkets and just a short and nice walk away to the city center. Cost for 2 nights less than € 100 per person.
As soon as we arrived at our Residence, we threw our suitcases inside our room and we went straight to the beach. We just crossed the road and “Lido 3 Conchiglie” is situated in front of the residence.
The partnership with the Lido entitled as to a discount on the cost of the sunbed & deckchair cost € 5.
The afternoon in Agropoli Cilento
The weather was GORGEOUS, the water so crystal clear and the atmosphere so peaceful. I felt in paradise.
As I’m a big chatterbox, while my friend was peacefully sunbathing, I started to talk with a local “nonna” (grandma). Then it’s time for lunch, my favourite time of the day!
I decided to have lunch at the Lido Restaurant called “Tre conchiglie”. I ordered the classic Salento dish “Gnocchi alla Sorrentina”. It was delicious and a big portion. Followed by a nice and fresh fruit salad. Very affordable prices. HIghly Recommended.
Late that afternoon, we went to Agropoli city center, less than 20 minutes by foot from our residence.
Agropoli is a charming town. The evening lights in the marina that you can see from one the highest spots, Church of our Lady of Constantinople’s square, are just so romantic.
There are so many good restaurants and bars. We decided to have dinner at “Ristorante Tommasini”. A nice family owned restaurant, with an amazing team who will take care of you with the proper Italian welcoming. Food was perfect. I was craving a good “Risotto alla pescatora” and a big plate of “Frittura mista”, both of them were incredible. Paired with their fine white wine Falanghina produced by Tommasini’s family.
